Give Thanks for Frilly and Funkie

Hello friends and visitors! Today the Funkie side of the Design Team at Frilly and Funkie reveal their inspiration for our newest challenge, 'Give Thanks!'. We have so much to be grateful for! The Frilly and Funkie team is thankful for our loyal readers and our newest visitors! For this challenge, simply create a vintage or shabby chic project that expresses gratitude.

I made a mixed media Thanksgiving card for my Mom using Prima's Amber Moon papers and Tim Holtz Pumpkin Patch Bigz die cuts as my focal point.

I die cut two of the papers using the largest Tim's Stitched Rectangles die. For the wood plank panel, I tore off the serrated edges and both panels were colored to match my background panel using Distress Oxides. I chose two of the smaller panels in the pad for my sentiment, and these were also colored with Distress Oxides.

To make my background panel, I used one of my trusty canned cat food thin chipboard inserts and applied Grit paste and clear crackle paste randomly and smooshed some sequins into the wet paste. I allowed this to dry overnight and then gave it a coat of gesso. Later I painted it with Distress paints and spritzed them with water to blend. I dried with a heat tool and allowed it to dry still more overnight. The sequins started popping off, so I thought it would be a good idea to give the entire panel a coat of Distress Collage Medium, and I used the Matte mixed with just a bit of Vintage for subtle color. Finally I rubbed Distress crayon over it and wiped to leave it to highlight the cracks and texture.

The little pumpkin is one of Linda's charms from the shop; I just added a bit of Distress crayon to highlight it. The ribbon is from the little goodie bag Linda includes as a thank you gift in all of her orders. I just pulled the looped end through the bail of the charm and tied up the ends.

I threw just about everything I own at the pumpkin die cuts. I started by dipping them in Antique Linen Distress Oxide, then added random smudges of Distress Micro Glaze. Again, back to the dipping into puddles of diluted oxides in pumpkin colors drying between colors. After they were completely dry, I smeared on clear crackle paste randomly and allowed that to dry. I rubbed the crayons to highlight the cracks.

To finish it off, I added a single Seasonal Chit Chat sticker edged with crayon.

That's all for me today--now it's over to YOU!  Create a vintage or shabby chic project following the challenge guidelines and link up at Frilly and Funkie before midnight on Tuesday, December 5. But first, I hope you will stop by the blog to see all the wonderful inspiration from both my Frilly and my Funkie teammates.

The team will choose their top four picks with the winner being invited to join us in a Guest DT spot  at Frilly and Funkie, and the next three will receive badges to display on their blogs. Everyone who enters and follows the rules will be entered into the draw to have the chance to win a $25 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique.

  2. Wow Sara, this is magnificent! Those pumpkins are just brilliant, I love the die cut and the amazing way you textured and coloured them! The ribbon and wee charm are such a great addition! So many wonderful layers filled with textures, techniques and fantstic effects. A gorgeous autumn creation my friend!

Hope you're having a great week. It's very dark and overcast here, but we finally had our first frost of the season so I'm hoping that's a sign that we will soon get some snow. sending hugs :)

  8. I did not think this was a card at all! It looks more like a wall plaque and rightly should be framed. The texture on your bg panel and pumpkins is off the charts beautiful. I love how you paired the Prima papers with this design. So rustic and beautiful. Big hugs, Autumn
