All Occasion Fall Themed Card For A Vintage Journey

Hello friends! It's my turn to host our latest challenge at A Vintage Journey, and I have chosen the theme 'Autumn Splendor'.

With the glorious colours of fall it would be oh so nice to see some falling leaves, pumpkins, acorns or any other favourite images that brings fall to mind. Just remember to create your project in our preferred styles of vintage, shabby, mixed media, art journaling, industrial, timeworn or steampunk.

Autumn is my favorite season. I love the blue, blue skies dotted with white fluffy clouds, the bold colors of the changing leaves and the way the light hits everything differently. I chose to make a simple card depicting some of these colors. Since I'm the host of this challenge, I will be posting my tutorial for this project at A Vintage Journey in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, here are a couple of close ups of my card.

Hello! I wanted to make a simple, lighthearted Halloween card for my Mom, and was happy to see the Tangled Twigs die cut give just the right amount of spookiness to the Tim Holtz' fun Halloween ephemera pieces.

I haven't gotten Tim's newest Halloween ephemera pack yet, but I've still got plenty of great images left from last year's pack. My Mom loves owls so I chose one of the many in the pack, along with the Spooky flash card from the set and paired them with Halloween  Kraft Stock. All I did was blend the flash card and owl with Frayed Burlap Distress ink and splatter with watery Black Soot ink using Tim's splatter brush.

I cut Tangled Twigs from black card and a 'moon' from the kraft stock and layered them over another of the kraft stock patterns. I sanded the background layer and blended the edges with Black Soot ink.

The leaves tucked under the owl are one of Tim's Nature's Wonders stamps, inked with Forest Moss, Peeled Paint, Frayed Burlap, and Carved Pumpkin Distress inks. I chose a Halloween Clippings Sticker, and inked it with Frayed Burlap.

The seam binding ribbon was colored with Black Soot, Carved Pumpkin and Mowed Lawn, stapled  with my Tiny Attacher, and tied off with black thread.

This card was so quick and easy to make and just plain fun, and not many supplies were needed. I hope you're inspired to create a fun little Halloween card for someone special, too!

Beauty in Simplicity

Hello friends! I'm still having so much fun playing with my Tim Holtz Botanical 3D Texture Fade, and seeing just how versatile it is! This time, I've given my card a clean modern vibe using Tim Holtz Ideaology Metallic Kraft Stock as the base.

To get one continuous pattern on this extra long card, I ran the 8 by 3.75 inch panel through my die cut machine with the Botanical folder, embossing the top portion of the card.  I removed the card from the folder and simply flipped it around to emboss the opposite end, using the same portion of the folder as I did the first pass.  I emboss it only to where the first pass finished. You'll notice there's a line there, but it will be covered up. And the flower is pointing upward as opposed to the downward facing ones on the top portion. This folder was so cleverly designed it works so nicely from either direction.

I sanded the panel and colored it with some shades of green and blue inks which almost disappear on the metal.

I applied clear crackle paste and allowed it to dry overnight. You can see how the paste really brings the color to life. To add some contrast, I swiped the embossed blossoms with metallic wax, using the lightest touch.  I think you could achieve similar results with Distress Crazing Medium and Distress Metallic Crayons, but the wax was out, and I'm fresh out of Crazing.

I colored a Garden Greens die cut, a length of Crinkle Ribbon,  a trio of Bouquet Findings, and a flower from my stash using coordinating inks.

The sentiment is from Tim's newly released Nature's Wonder set. I embossed it on a scrap of the metallic kraft stock with embossing ink and Ranger black embossing powder, using my Stamp Platform to make the impression. I cut it from the card using the label die from Stitched Slots. I sanded an old sandable card stock (also by Tim Holtz) from my stash to layer my card onto. I adhered it with Distress Collage Medium Matte and also used the collage medium to adhere my assembled elements. Although this card is so simply designed, I think it packs a lot of drama from the amazing 3D embossing and metallic card.
