Mixed Media Tag for A Vintage Journey Tag Friday

Sara Emily Barker https://sarascloset1.blogspot.com/2019/11/mixed-media-tag-for-vintage-journey-tag.html Mixed Media Tag with Tim Holtz Stamper's Anonymous Pressed Foliage 1

Hello and welcome! Happy Thanksgiving to all my American friends! I hope you enjoyed a wonderful day full of reflection, family and good food! Because it's the 5th Friday of the month over at A Vintage Journey, where it is indeed already Friday, we toast the occasion with Tag Friday.

Sara Emily Barker https://sarascloset1.blogspot.com/2019/11/mixed-media-tag-for-vintage-journey-tag.html Mixed Media Tag with Tim Holtz Stamper's Anonymous Pressed Foliage 2

Like fellow Creative Guide Alison always says, my tag has that now you see it, now you don't quality of shimmer. In the photo above, it looks like a big white blob to the right of the embossed leaf image and even some spider web thin lines lining the edge of the gold at the top left. Turned so slightly, it disappears altogether, and the background leaf stamping moves into view in the photo below.

I have no step by step photos as I actually made the bulk of this tag several months ago, when I first received my Tim Holtz Pressed Foliage stamps. Even then, the tag with it's hints of shimmer, came from my stash of mop up tags. So it's pretty much anyone's guess as to what colors went into it, except it's pretty obvious there's Evergreen Bough ink. Here are some closeups to show the detail.

Splatters of Picket Fence paint mingle with the various others colors picked up from leftover inks/oxides from passed projects.

The sentiment is stamped in Ground Espresso Archival and clear embossed. I backed the tag with a metallic envelope liner. ( I picked up a pack of these on clearance for pennies at a local craft store). After trimming the metallic paper, I sanded it, blended the edges with Ground Espresso ink and swiped on a bit of White Gold Prima Metallic wax before adhering it to the completed tag.

I tried many times last night to duplicate the background, so I could make a second tag but I could not duplicate the shimmer with any of my metallic products, and I ended up just making a big muddy mess. So one tag will have to suffice. I suspect there may have been a bit of white gold wax on my mat when I was mopping up the other colors.

Now I can move onto Christmas crafting; I think I may have to make New Year's cards instead.  How about you? Have you completed your Christmas cards? In any event, happy crafting! Hugs! Sara Emily

Toxique

Sara Emily Barker https://sarascloset1.blogspot.com/2019/09/toxique.html Halloween Etcetera Tag 1

Hello, and welcome! It's time for our latest challenge at The Funkie Junkie Challenge Blog, and this time our hostess is the talented Ginny!  She titles her challenge 'Terrific Tags', and here's what she says:

Add it to a gift, label a homemade tasty treat, or display it with your favorite home decor, tags are not only fun to create they also have a million uses.  For this challenge create a tag that's big or small, mixed media or layered, or added to a project as a fabulous focal point. I can't wait to see your creations!

As always, the winner will earn a chance to be a Guest Designer at a future date at The Funkie Junkie Boutique blog, and everyone who enters and follows the rules will go into the draw for the chance to win a $25 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique. There are also Top 3 Badges for three additional outstanding entries, chosen by the Design Team. Please see the blog for details.

For Ginny's challenge, I decided to make a piece of Halloween decor.  I chose a  Small Etcetera Tag and adhered Tim Holtz' new Abandoned Paper Stash with Distress Collage Medium Matte. I sanded the edges and blended with Twisted Citron Oxide.

The frame is an Ideaology Baseboard Frame, and I've linked to the new Halloween Layers & Baseboard Frames in the products list below. I mixed Prima Mini Art Stones with collage medium and smeared it randomly on the frame. I painted the frame with Black Soot Distress paint and followed this with another layer of collage medium to seal it. When it was dry to touch, I sprayed with Twisted Citron Distress Oxide Spray.

I constructed the backing to the frame from chipboard and covered it with Ideaology Halloween collage paper from last year. To tie it in with the rest of the tag, I colored with Hickory Smoke and Twisted Citron Distress Oxide.

The number plaque is colored with Black Soot paint, Twisted Citron Oxide spray and Smolder Alcohol Pearls. The Hardware Heads also got a dab of Smolder.  Halloween Quote Chips were colored with Twisted Citron crayon. These are last year's chips, but I've linked to the new ones below. The new ones have extra room to attach with brads or those wonderful Hardware Heads and there's lots of new quotes, too.

Inside the frame I colored a Heavystock panel with Hickory Smoke and Twisted Citron Distress Oxide. I colored baubles with Twisted Citron Oxide Spray and Smolder Alcohol Pearls. Skeleton Hand charms from the shop are colored with Picket Fence paint.

The Cauldron die cut is the one I made for this Saturday Showcase where I show a few ideas for using your 3D Crackle Texture Fade. You can find directions on how I made this there. I cut a second cauldron from sanded Metallic kraft stock and blended the edges with Ground Espresso. I adhered the top and sides of the textured cauldron to form a pocket to stick the hands in.  I tucked in some dyed cheesecloth I had on my work top and mixed up a little extra goo and applied it to the Quote Chip, the frame and to the skeleton hands.

Below are some close up photos to show the detail.

The photo below shows just how thick these layers ended up. I used waste cardboard to elevate the pieces off the tag.

Most Delicate Tag Friday and Tutorial for A Vintage Journey

Sara Emily Barker https://sarascloset1.blogspot.com/2019/08/most-delicate-tag-friday-and-tutorial.html #timholtz #3Dcrackle #batcrazy #halloween Halloween Tag Tutorial 1

Hello and welcome! It's time for Tag Friday over at A Vintage Journey. This is just a fun feature for the Creative Guides to make a tag using whatever products they wish without any constraints or theme in mind. I hope you will stop over to see all the amazing tags my talented teammates created. But before you head off, I've prepared a simple step by step for you, and following that, some close-up photos to enjoy.

 Let's get started...

1. Blend Wilted Violet then Aged Mahogany Distress Oxide inks through an old Prima stencil over a black painted wooden tag. While the stencil is still in place spray with Distress Mica Spray. Remove stencil and dry the tag. Sand the edges and apply Hickory Smoke paint to edges.

2. Die cut Ornate Frame from silver Metallic Kraft Stock. Color with Slate alcohol ink, Smolder Alcohol Pearls and a bit of Black Soot paint on edges that will extend beyond the tag.

3. Die cut oval from panel of mixed media paper.  Blend with Weathered Wood, Wilted Violet, Seedless Preserves and Dusty Concord Oxide ink.

4. Emboss oval with Tim Holtz Crackle 3D embossing folder,  colored side facing up, so you are left with a spider web appearance.  Lightly blend the ridges with Black Soot ink. Adhere embossed oval to Ornate Frame and adhere to tag with adhesive foam tape.

5. Die cut bats from Classic Kraft Stock using Bat Crazy Thinlits set. Sand the edges and blend with Twisted Citron Distress Oxide ink. Make eyes with Stickles. Adhere to oval with collage medium.

6. Dye seam binding ribbon with Wilted Violet and Seedless Preserves Oxide and stamp with Ledger Script stamps and Dusty Concord and Hickory Smoke Distress Archival inks.

7.  Color a Halloween Word Token with Black Soot paint, allow to dry a minute and wipe off excess. String with Ideaology Jute String and tie with seam binding to tag.

8. Color a bat charm with Smolder Alcohol pearls and Black Soot paint.

9. Blend a Halloween Clippings sticker with Frayed Burlap ink. Adhere to a bat charm and adhere this to tag with collage medium.

And some close-ups...

I really am enjoying Tim Hotlz' newest 3D embossing folder -- Crackle, to make this spooky background. If you would like some other ways to use this folder, you can visit this Saturday Showcase tutorial.

That's all for me! We always love to see your fun tags that you have been creating and invite you to join the party by linking any tag you have made during the month of August. Just visit the blog and add your link! I hope to see you there! Hugs! Sara Emily

Spring Tag With Tim Holtz Tattered Butterfly and Prima Havana

Sara Emily Barker https://sarascloset1.blogspot.com/2019/05/spring-tag-with-tim-holtz-tattered.html Spring Tag Tim Holtz Sizzix Tattered Butterfly Adorned Prima Havana 1

Welcome! Today I'm sharing a pretty spring birthday tag featuring Tim Holtz Tattered Butterfly and Adorned die cuts and Prima Havana papers, flowers and ephemera. A heavy kraft oversized tag is covered with the paper front and back. I put my birthday greeting on the back, since there really wasn't room on the front.

Tattered Butterfly was cut from the designer paper and burlap paper. I cut a couple of flourishes using  Adorned Thinlits die and colored with Distress Oxide spray and ink. The flowers, greenery, papers and butterfly get help holding their shape with Prima Sculpture Medium and everything was adhered with Distress Collage Medium Matte.

I was able to coordinate a white gardenia with Abandoned Coral oxide ink and dripped some Distress Spray Stain in the same color on the background. Cracked Pistachio oxide ink tones down the bright green of the leaves and I also splashed some of that on the background. Edges were blended with Ground Espresso ink.

I hope you like my tag as much as I liked making it! It was fun creating something with no agenda, but I'd still like to share with a couple of my favorite challenge blogs. Thanks for stopping by! Hugs and blessings! Sara Emily
