'Wishful' Thinking -- A Winter Card

Hello friends! I was getting a little burnt out with Halloween, but I'm still not tiring of using my Tangled Twigs die by Tim Holtz. I originally ordered this die because I visualized a winter scene of icy trees. But it sure has been getting a lot of use in my Fall and Halloween projects, here, here, here and on my Halloween vignette I'll post tomorrow.

It's very hot here, but I was doing a little 'wishful' thinking about the cooler days ahead when I made this winter card.

I cut the Tangled Twigs from white card stock and using a water brush pen, colored the twigs with Black Soot and Frayed Burlap Distress ink, leaving some of the white of the card showing. I squeezed Ranger's Crackle Accents on the edges and tops of the branches and covered with Rock Candy Distress Glitter. I chose Crackle Accents only because my  bottle of Glossy Accents was indisposed. I wish you could see just how icy these branches look in real life. I just couldn't pick up that shimmer with my phone's camera without the aid of bright sunlight, which is sadly lacking lately.

To add to the icy look, I swiped the edges of the die cut with Distress Clear Rock Candy Crackle Paint and allowed that to dry. Then I rubbed it with Brushed Pewter and Picket Fence Distress Crayons.

I broke out my Tumbled Glass and Stormy Sky Distress Oxide inks for the first time and dipped a panel of Distress Mixed Media Heavy Stock in watery puddles of these perfect winter sky colors.

I adhered the twigs panel to the Heavy Stock with Distress Collage Medium Matte and layered that over a card blank edged with Tidings Design Tape.

I die cut four of the smaller snowflakes from Mini Paper Snowflakes Thinlits set and colored them with the same oxides as the sky and edged with Black Soot ink. I dried with a heat tool and gave them the same frosty treatment as the twigs.

The bundled Paper Doll family looked perfect for my snowy scene, and I scuffed them, swiped on Tumbled Glass oxide ink and gave them a protective coat of collage medium.

I adhered scraps of Ideaology Deco Sheets tapped with Tumbled Glass oxide to a pair of Story Sticks with Collage medium and sanded the edges. I added a couple of Christmas Remnant Rubs and sealed with more Collage medium.

I dabbed on Distress Grit Paste along the bottom of the twigs panel and on the tops of the Story Sticks and sprinkled them with more Rock Candy glitter. Everything was adhered with Collage Medium, and I gave the Paper Dolls dimension by adhering with Ranger Foam Adhesive tape.

Brrrr! I can almost feel the chill! I hope you are inspired to do some Christmas crafting. I think I'm ready to get back to some Halloween now! Happy creating!

Hugs and Blessings!
