I made this card for my sister, after I was inspired by Simon Says Stamp In the Family challenge. When I think of my family, I think of my oldest sister-- the glue that held our family together when we were young. And even today, she is still doing that, even though our family is spread all over the country. Since I write her several times a week, I say my letters to her are like therapy sessions, where I let off all my steam, and vent without abandon.
Simply Create Too is calling for something old or vintage on our projects, so I chose this vintage image "Sisters" to depict me and my sister. I stamped it twice, painted one with Distress Markers, cut out the girls, and glued them on with glue dots to give just a hint of dimension on the image.
I was inspired by The Mixed Media Monthly Challenge to use Stencils and modeling paste on my project. There's no symbolism here; just wanted to add some texture to a somewhat flat card. I think I still need LOTS of practice with this!
"Word Play" is the theme at Country View Challenges, and in addition to the stamped words on the front of my card, I wanted to make a play on words by the images on my card. When I think of families, I recall the phrase "The nut doesn't fall far from the tree". So playing along with the family theme mentioned earlier, I included the tree and the nut images on my background. Not that anyone in MY family is nuts, or anything!!! I colored the tree image with several Distress Markers and gave it a spritz of water, before stamping on my background.
