'Sea' the World Etcetera Tag

Sara Emily Barker https://sarascloset1.blogspot.com/2019/07/sea-world-etcetera-tag.html 'Sea' the World' Mixed Media Etcetera Tag 1

Hello friends! Today marks the start of a new challenge at The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog, formerly Frilly and Funkie. The name and blog design has changed but the bi-weekly challenges continue as usual.  Starting with the current theme, both the Frilly and the Funkie sides of the Design Team are joining forces to present one post for the challenge titled Water, Water, Everywhere. This theme was chosen by the talented Cec, and here is what she says:

Often when people go on vacation there is water involved – fishing, cruising, checking out the aquarium, enjoying water sports or playing in the sand at the beach. For this challenge I want you to create a vintage or shabby chic project that reminds you of one or more of these past times.

As always, the Design Team will choose their top four picks, and the winner will be invited to join us in a Guest DT spot at The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog. The next three will receive Top 3 badges to display on their blogs. Everyone who enters and follows the rules will be entered into the draw to have the chance to win a $25 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique.

The inspiration for my panel came from these three seafaring ladies that were on top of the deck of Tim Holtz Found Relatives pack that was still sitting out on my desk. (Nancy, Betty and Barbara, all BFF's since high school.) "Use me!", they cried out in unison. I colored them with Distress Crayons and layered over Classic and Metallic Kraft Stock panels. I added a tiny price 'sticker' from Tim's Keepsakes Ephemera pack, distressed and inked with Ground Espresso.

Backing the photo is a Destination Thinlit die cut heat embossed with Fractured Ice embossing powder over brown Distress ink. This translucent powder does amazing things over colored inks and makes it so easy to add depth and dimension. I adhered the die cut over an oxide mop up panel from my stash and fussy cut around the edges.

I had another inky panel in my stash that worked perfectly as the background. It was a mop up from a combination of  (I believe) Pumice Stone, Vintage Photo and Walnut Stain Distress Oxide Sprays on Bristol board . I adhered the panel to a Mini Etcetera Tag with Distress Collage Medium Matte, trimmed and sanded the edges. I blended with Evergreen Bough Distress ink and added Metallic crayon randomly to the edges.

I just picked up a couple of vintage checkbooks at a really inexpensive estate sale this past weekend (these were free), and on flipping through the stubs, I came across this one that worked perfectly with my theme. This check was for $65 and it was for "Trip-Cost/Laundry". I used one of the  Ticket Booth Framelits to cut the rough edge where I tore it from the checkbook and aged it a bit more with Distress inks.

I embossed a strip of Classic Kraft Stock with Foundry 3D Texture Fade, sanded and inked with Rusty Hinge oxide and Ground Espresso ink.

I originally had plans to use my new to me Tim Holtz Sea Life  stamp set as the focus of my project, but Nancy, Barbara and Betty were calling to me. Yet I couldn't resist adding this sweet seahorse and seaweed from the set. I can just imagine looking out the port hole in your cruise cabin and seeing this bit of sea life. I used Classic and Metallic Kraft Stock and Steampunk Parts die to make the aged brass porthole.

Another piece of Keepsakes ephemera and a stamped and torn ticket back the Quote Chip. I used Tim Holtz Ticket Booth stamps and Framelits to make the ticket, which is colored with oxides and stamped with a combination of Distress Archival inks ( Faded Jeans and Ground Espresso) which adds depth and age. Using my Stamp Platform makes easy work of stamping using more than one color.

An Ideaology Swivel Clasp holds an altered Typed Token . I used a seahorse charm from my stash, but Linda sells a beautiful seahorse charm in the shop as well as a seaside charm set that comes with the sweetest  detailed seahorse along with 8 other antiqued bronze nautical charms. (They're on sale for just $3.59 for the set!)  I tied off my tag with a couple pieces of that gorgeous ribbon Linda ties up her thank you packages with along with Ideaology Jute String colored with Cracked Pistachio Distress Oxide spray.

That's all for me today, but there's plenty more wonderful watery inspiration over on the blog, where my Frilly and Funkie teammates will wow you with their creativity. Then it's over to you! I can't wait to see what you will make! Hugs and Blessings! Sara Emily
