Easter Eggs--Double Duty for Emerald Creek Dares

Hello friends and visitors! It's time for another challenge at Emerald Creek Dares, and this time the theme is Double Duty. This could be interpreted in several ways, such as a project that can cross the lines between being a birthday or a Mother's Day card or a project that could have two different uses. Or it could be taking an image or product and using it in a different way from which it was intended.

For my Easter eggs, I've used embossing powder in place of glitter. I started by giving the paper mache' eggs a coat of gesso, followed by a couple of coats of Distress paints. When that was fully dry, I coated them with DecoArt Multi Medium and rolled them in Emerald Creek's fabulously unique embossing powder. For the blue egg, I used Winter's Mistake embossing powder (all links to products at end of post) and on the yellow, Easter Parade. The yellow looks really sparkly in real life. Some vintage trim from my stash is the perfect compliment!

For these funky eggs, I've used Emerald Creek's spider web stamp on tissue paper, colored it with Distress markers and adhered it on my gessoed eggs. I took a lot of care not to overlap the tissue, but rather to make the pattern line up as well as I could by cutting portions out as I went along. Once done, I coated it all with DecoArt Liquid Glass.

This little pink, sparkly egg did not come out exactly as I planned, but I'll show you anyway. I gessoed and painted the egg as before, then rolled the Branch Out stamp over the egg randomly, stamping with Watering Can Archival ink. It was pretty bold, so I gave it another coat of paint. Next, doing a small section at a time, I outlined the pattern with glossy Accents and sprinkled generously with Sweet Valentine embossing powder and left it to dry. Doing this in small sections took days, and sadly some of the original stamping still shows through here and there. Next time, I might chose to just go ahead and use Versamark embossing ink. I was aiming for more of a puffy raised pattern, so chose to take the hard way out--lesson learned.

I really love the sparkle on this one having used Iridescent Shimmer Embossing powder.

And here they are all together, so you don't have to scroll back up.

Now it's over to you! I hope you will see new potential in your products or see a second or a third possibility for your artwork! I can't wait to see what you will make! Remember the winner receives a very generous gift voucher to Emerald Creek Craft Supplies!

I am so glad you went with an Easter them and showed us so many eggs. (I loved the tissue paper spider web, i never would have though to make it a colour pattern and then sticking it to the egg. 15. Wow to the tenth degree Sara, these are absolutely amazing!! I am blown away by your creativity with these eggs. So many uses for embossing powder, I may have to pull mine out of the closet and put them back on the shelf! I love the soft pastels on the first two, blue and yellow with the coordinating laces! Beautiful colouring to the powders, almost like a microbead mix! Your spider web eggs are so much fun, only you could make Halloween Easter eggs look completely natural! The shimmer on that last one is so gorgeous, wow!! What a delightful basket of Easter joy, and how wonderful do they look in the grass like that! Fabulous project my friend, well done on the theme too! sending hugs :)
