12 Tags of Christmas-Funkie Junkie Style-Week 3

Hello again!  For my second post today, I have my version of Week 3 of  Linda's 12 Tags of Christmas Funkie Junkie Style.  I am one determined person to get caught up and get my cards in the mail before the New Year! Linda's challenge has inspired me, and I have a bee in my bonnet!

The photo below is Linda's version.  You can tell I was inspired by her use of red with the Tim Holtz  Holiday Knit Thinlits die, as well as her Kaisercraft Lasercut wooden embellishments and Wendy Vecchi's Holly and Berries, all sold at her shop The Funkie Junkie Boutique. She is generously donating several huge gift vouchers to her store as prizes for this four month long challenge (challenge sponsored by The Funkie Junkie Boutique).

I didn't have the Thinlits die, but I do have Tim's Holiday Knit stencil. I started by painting my card with Distress paint, Barn Door.  When thoroughly dry, I  slathered texture paste through the stencil and set it aside to dry.

In the meantime, I die cut my snowflake and deer (Tim Holtz Movers and Shapers) out of a wood slat from a cigar box. I have a pile of these, and they come in handy from time to time. Unfortunately, my first attempts failed, as the wood broke apart running it through my Big Kick. I persevered and was rewarded with one deer intact. I got smart and inked him while he was still stuck in the die. The snowflake is cut from card I colored to look like the same wood. I also cut the same out of black card for a shadow effect and to lend some support to the fragile wood. (I'm kicking myself for passing up the Kaisercraft goodies at Linda's shop!) Like Linda, I added Stickles to the deer and snowflake, mine in platinum. My berries are gemstones from my stash.

Even though I don't have the Wendy Vecchi Holly and Berries, I followed Linda's inspiration and die cut my own from card scraps left from my trees in my last entry. I stamped them in Evergreen Bough with a Boundless Flight image by Tim Holtz and edged them with Black Soot Distress marker. Deer, holly, and snowflake are popped up with Ranger black foam tape I'm stocked up with from Linda's shop. My sentiment, also from Linda's well appointed shop, is Tim's Small Talk stickers--Occasions.

One more off the list!

I would like to enter this into the following inspiring challenges:

Thanks for your comment on my blog. It's always an adventure reading your comments. You should be a novelist. The Christmas Light necklace does not light up. Although...I do have mini lights I wanted to use the necklace. Anyway, thanks for sharing another awesome creation for Bringing Bits of Cheer over at Emerald Creek Dares Challenge Blog. 17. Question-did any of the DI bled through the texture paste for your background? I wa curious about that because I had that happen and am not sure where I went wrong. Anywho-this is a gorgeous card and all the colors pop off the page! That deer sure was hard work but it turned out darling. Love the shadow effect with the black backing. Gorgeous and so festive! Awesome sauce! Hugz to you muffin!

    1. Sorry I'm late to answer, Niki; I was terribly tied up yesterday! No, no bleed through yet. I made sure my red PAINTED background was REALLY dry, both by heat and overnight stay in the Closet with the lights out! I used Liquitex texture paste. Maybe it's one of those things that helped prevent the bleed through. I would be willing to be it the dry time on the paint and using paint instead of ink. I hope this helps. I will text you to let you know I answered. Hugs to you, Punkin!

  20. I love the red and white combination. You did an amazing job with the texture paste through your stencil. I tried that twice, and well...it did not look as awesome as yours. I am going back to perfect it now that I've seen how beautiful it can look.
