Mischief -- Three Cards With Tim Holtz Haunted and Abandoned

Hello friends! It's time for the newest challenge at The Funkie Junkie Boutique blog, and it's my turn to host. I picked the theme, "Purple, Orange, Green! Eek! It's Halloween!". Make sure you read the full description, because I offer an alternative to play, even if you're not a fan of Halloween.

"I love Halloween, and I would love to see your vintage or shabby chic Halloween creations, whether it be a card, tag, canvas, or any other make! If Halloween is not your cup of tea, simply use the colors purple, orange and green on your project to play along."

As always, the winner will earn a chance to be a Guest Designer at a future date at The Funkie Junkie Boutique challenge blog, and everyone who enters and follows the rules will go into the draw for the chance to win a $25 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique. There are also Top 3 Badges for three additional outstanding entries, chosen by the Design Team. Please see the blog for details. While you are there, be sure to check out all the amazing inspiration by my talented teammates.

I decided to go with both options of the challenge and made purple, orange, and green Halloween cards using Tim Holtz Abandoned Paper Stash and his Haunted Thinlits die set for each one. Here is my favorite...

I cut extra bats and an extra house out of silver metallic kraft stock to provide highlights. I left the little bits in the house and secured them in place with tape on the reverse side of the die cut.

I don't have much in the way of step by step photos for these cards, because they are pretty simple and really are just a matter of assembling the detailed haunted house and gluing. Each of the houses was cut from backgrounds I already had in my stash. I just added different inks to each to make it a bit more spooky: Black Soot, Forest Moss, Frayed Burlap, Walnut Stain and Ground Espresso. This one is Cracked Leather smeared with matte wax. You might notice I cut the shutter off from the side of the house. That was because my background was just a bit too narrow.

This is the only "technique" I used on these cards, and it's an old favorite of mine at Halloween time. Sand metallic kraft stock and smear it with paint (Black Soot). Spritz the paint with water immediately, and dry with a heat tool. I used this panel to cut the detail bits (shutters, roof, etc.) with. There are embossed lines on the house die cuts to guide you in adding the little bits, but if you look closely, I missed the mark almost 100% of the time. I'm as blind as a BAT, even with my readers on. I should have waited until I had a sunny day to add these, because they sure show up in the sun! LOL

I added a bit of interest to the Abandoned papers with Stitches stamping in Black Soot Archival ink and a couple of old Halloween Remnant Rubs.

The moon is cut using the moon from this year's Gatekeeper set by Tim Holtz and some mop up paper I had in my stash. Anytime I have a puddle of ink, I mop it up with these sheets of paper I keep handy. They are perfect to have on hand for these little die cuts. The bats are also from Gatekeeper set and last year's Bat Crazy. I love how Tim's products work so well with his past releases.

The crescent moon on this card is from Tim's old Haunted House set. An extra mat cut from textured card looks like burnt wood with a direct-to-paper swipe of Archival Black Soot ink pad around the edges. Little details can give simple cards like these a little extra something.

I used some of the text from the Curiosities sticker book as my sentiments on each card

You can see from the weird angle below, that each of the houses was popped up on corrugated waste cardboard to add dimension.

That's all for me today. Now it's over to you! I hope you will get your crafty supplies out and create something for Halloween, or in the purple/orange/green color palette and link it up to the challenge for a chance to win one of the great prizes. Happy crafting! Sara Emily

I'll leave you with a bit more Halloween inspiration, this time from my garden. We were having one of those beautiful rare October morning fogs...

  9. Though the designs may be similar the effect of the different backgrounds and colours makes a world of difference to the look of each of your gorgeous cards Sara Emily. Such a clever touch to add the stamped stitching to the backgrounds. Your garden cemetery looks incredibly effective in the fog and it looks like the spiders were doing their bit to add to the spookiness xx

  10. Hi Sara Emily, had to comment when I saw these. They are stunning! I actually think not having 20/20 helped as their wonkiness is endearing. Those backgrounds! Oh my! Loved your garden too! Spooky! XOX

  12. My daughter (Annabel) suffered schizophrenia for 5 years. I had no idea what was happening and didn’t know where to turn for help. It was hard then because I really didn’t understand the symptoms earlier until she was diagnosed. There was a time she decided to get away from everyone, I was not excluded. I had to sit and cry almost every day because I felt helpless as a single mother (she is all I have got). The anguish I went through taking care of her alone is beyond explanation because there was no support whatsoever from the dad or family members. I fought for proper medical care and humane treatment; I did everything within my reach to get her cured but all to no avail. Countless different medications was prescribed (Zyprexa, fluphenazine, Risperdal, quetiapine, etc.) that she was taking but all we could get was myriad of side effects such as rigidity, drowsiness, dizziness, tremors and restlessness which tends to worsen the already damaged situation. Frustration was the order of the day. I wrote a couple of messages to Ontario Mental Health Foundation for help because watching my daughter go through such was devastating. It was at this foundation someone shared a testimony about DR Sunday herbal medicine, how effective it is and how she went through the most difficult times of her life trying to help her mom fight Schizophrenia. Being that I was already at the verge of giving up because I just couldn't imagine waking up every morning to fight the same demons that left me so tired the night before. I had to contact the doctor,on his email  (drsundayherbalcenter@gmail.com)  from our conversations; I was relieved and convinced that the result is going to be positive because I was made to contact people with worse cases. Today, the awful situation of my daughter has gone by. Her happy life is back. She is now a schizophrenia survivor and I am glad because my daily routine activities can now kick off without obstructions. Don't let Schizophrenia hinder you from living a desired life and also, never allow anyone to decide for you especially when they don't know what you have to go through to get to where you are. I was almost discouraged by the doctor but then, I remembered that: I have to shield my daughter’s destiny with courage, faith and perseverance because she is not in her right state of mind and that the bravery and freedom from fear is found in the ‘doing’. Her life is now a testimony. After my daughter got cured, from the herbal mix medicine Dr Sunday prepared and sent to me, she said, Mom “I just thought, ‘Well, I’m a weirdo, I’ll never be normal, then I said, my daughter, life itself is a misery and we get stronger in the places we have been broken. Thanks to you Dr. Sunday  for your excellent counseling, no more psychotic symptoms for the past 3 years and 4 months now. To know more about Dr.Sunday and the effectiveness of his Herbs and roots extracts and he said he got cures for diseases like Bipolar,DIABETES, HPV,SHINGLES,CANCER, ALS, HEPATITIS B, KIDNEY DISEASE, HERPES, Ovarian Cancer,Pancreatic cancers, Bladder cancer,Skin cancer, Prostate cancer, Glaucoma., Cataracts,Macular degeneration,Cardiovascular disease,Autism,Lung disease.Enlarged prostate,Osteoporosis.Alzheimer's disease, psoriasis ,Tach Diseases,Lupus,Dementia.kidney cancer, lung cancer,.
