A Little Out of the Ordinary (for me)

Hello Crafty Friends and a warm welcome to all of my newest followers! I'm delighted you can join me today for a card that is very much out of the ordinary for me!

I threw caution to the wind and pulled out some sprays and powders in the loudest colors I could find, as well as a little bling, because I made this card especially for a friend who likes things bold.  Can you tell what else is different from my usual, beside the bright colors? That's right--NO distressing or grunge ANYWHERE on this card! I pulled out my Distress tool several times, and had to slap my own hand! After all, Kathy is the hostess for the theme Opposites Attract at Frilly and Funkie, and she wants us to dig deep and create a project that's not in our usual style and color palette.  Do you see any neutrals here, other than the white to contrast with my brights? There's also not much dimension, as this has to fly off over the big pond and reach it's destination quickly. I would say this is as far away from my usual style and colors as I can get without going CAS. Hmmm...gives me an idea!

So to keep this short, (another opposite for me) I'll just high light a few points and show you a few photos, because I know you will be seeing plenty of long posts here in the future.

The background has been stenciled with TCW's Art Is stencil and gesso.  I applied Dylusions spray and Distress ink, and wiped off the excess for a little resist technique.

The black panel has been enameled using Tim Holtz Blossom Stencil, Golden crackle paste and Opalettes Tropicals. I added a little Perfect Pearl powder for the shimmer on the black card, which my phone refuses to pick up. But in real life , it's there on the black background and on the enameled blossoms.

My sentiment is actually from two different stamp sets, because 'birthday' would not stamp properly on the smaller Inkadinkadoo sentiment--I must have tried 10 times! I bought that set just for the Happy Birthday sentiment, so I'm not happy with them at the moment! 'Birthday' is Tim Holtz--he's always there for me!

The butterfly and flowers are from two different Tim Holtz dies-- Tattered Flower Garland and Butterfly Frenzy and the foliage is Impression Obsession.

I would like to enter my bright card into the following inspiring challenges:
Frilly and Funkie Opposites Attract Along with my "opposites" listed in my text, I think my panels are quite opposite!
Mixed Media Place April Challenge Creative Gym #18 Be Patient. The Best Things Happen  Unexpectedly. I had to wait for the paste to dry to heat the enamels--a product I've not used like this before, so I didn't know what to expect (it's supposed to be used on metal, I think). Love the result!

I have to share a funny story with you.  When making this card this morning, the Dylusions spray got away from me, and I got some on my hands. I must have reached up to scratch my face, because when I looked in the mirror just now, I look cyanotic! I better stay away from nurses today or they may want to check my blood saturation levels!

Thank you for stopping by today and for all your wonderful comments! I read and appreciate each one.  If you have any questions, please leave it below, and I will answer.
Hugs and Blessings!

  11. This is most definitely you taking an opposite direction to normal and I feel your pain on the lack of brown! It feels un-natural somehow not to include it, but this definitely works. Love it! Thank you for joining us at Frilly and Funkie xx
