Guest Designer for Frilly and Funkie--Three of a Kind

Hello, my crafty friends!  I'm so happy you are here today, because that means I was able to post this  on time!  I've had a few-- er--computer issues lately.  How can 3 computer hard drives go bad in 3 days??? Like Rodney Dangerfield would say, "If I didn't have bad luck, I wouldn't have no luck at all"!, which is just bad English!

I'm doubly happy because the lovely and talented girls over at Frilly and Funkie have invited me back to be Guest Designer with them today!  Here is my card for  Sue's  theme "Let's Make It a Trio!".  I hope you will be inspired to join in this fun challenge!

I started by making two base layers by blending Distress inks on my papers--Worn Lipstick for the bottom layer and Peeled Paint and Mowed Lawn for the green layer and flicking them with water to get those lovely watery spots.  I added some Frantage in pink to the green layer, and of course, heated from the bottom so I didn't blow all that gorgeous powder all over the Closet.

The background is paper from Basic Grey. I second generation stamped a bird image from 7 Gypsies Conservatory set in Potting Soil Archival on tissue and adhered it to the background, distressed and inked the edges with Ground Expresso Distress ink.

The image within the frame is cut from 7 Gypsies paper, and again I stamped second generation bird images on tissue and adhered.  I blended on Worn Lipstick ink to unify the paper with the background paper.

The frame itself is Tim Holtz Ornate Frame die cut from cardboard covered with vintage book page. I added crackle paste randomly and sprinkled with pink Frantage, which I heat embossed when the paste dried. I edged the frame in Ground Expresso Distress ink. The little Avian tag is cut from the 7 Gypsies paper.

I cut an additional frame from white card inked with Peeled Paint and Ground Expresso inks and cut it in half.  I  tucked it underneath the focal frame, offsetting it just a bit.  I also tucked in some tree branches (Impression Obsession) as well as Tim Holtz Mixed Media Thinlits colored with Peeled Paint ink.

The three chipboard birdcages are from my stash--I think they are Paper Studio.  I painted one with gesso, DecoArt Titanium White acrylic paint, and edged in Ground Expresso Distress ink, and the two others are covered with Prima Art Sugar in Antique Silver and the little birds and highlights painted in Titanium White.

The two larger flowers and the bud are from my stash.  I edged the petals with Ranger Multi Matte medium and iridescent glittter.  The small flower is made with a punch, colored with Peeled Paint Distress marker and a water brush. Before adding the center, I added some iridescent glitter. The flower center is a half pearl embossed with embossing powder over texture paste.

I would like to thank the Design Team at Frilly and Funkie for inviting me to create with them today. It was a blast!

I would like to enter my card into the following inspiring challenges:
-Scrapy Land Challenge # 37 Anything Goes I used Sizzix and Impression Obsession dies.
-Our Creative Corner Return of the Challenge Sept. '13 Forgotten Things--I've forgotten about my decorated papers--I found a box full of them at the bottom of my bookshelf! Yippee! Good Stuff! Believe it or not, I also forgot about my birdcage chippies!

Thank you for stopping by today and for leaving your amazing comments!  They are inspiring and uplifting; I read and appreciate each and every one of them!
Hugs and Blessings!
Sara Emily

  2. Hi Sara Emily!!
I just had to pop over for a closer look at your beautiful card! I'm so happy I did, because I love getting a peek into your process, right down to the smallest elements like that gorgeous frantage! This is a true shabby chic masterpiece! I love birds also. I have three feeders and three bird houses right outside my craft room window. Sometimes I'm so mesmerized by the variety of songbirds and their gentle habits that I have difficulty focusing on my projects-Loll! I'm hopeful your computer woes are over. It's amazing how much we depend on them for daily life. Sending wishes for a wonderful day!
    Hugs,
    Nancy
