Vintage Valentine

Hello crafty friends!  I've got another Valentine's Day card for you today.  I took a stab at vintage/shabby this time.  I was really inspired by the lovely Design Team over at Frilly and Funkie using all their pretty printed papers this time for their theme Love is in the Air". I just had to look through my stash for something romantic and somewhat current.  Well, I don't have any of that, so I just had to make do.

I started with a store bought invitation, gessoed around the edges and topped of with some papers; the first layer given a pattern with Tim Holtz Dot Fade stencil and Victorian Velvet Distress ink and the next layer blended with Tea Dye.

I used some coordinating papers from K and Company that I've had for years, and pulled out my newest stencil from my last order from The Funkie Junkie Boutique--Tim Holtz Valentine to add some Valentine's text to the background.  I used Ranger Transparent Gloss Texture Paste, allowed it to dry, and then blended with Distress inks in Antique Linen, Victorian Velvet and Ground Expresso.

The tag is hand cut, distressed and  heat embossed with hearts from a Plaid stencil. The frame is made from two Spellbinders dies and the arrow is also Spellbinders.  I inked just the heart with Victorian Velvet and clear embossed three times.

The three hearts are from Sizzix Heartfelt die.  The two smaller ones are stamped with Tim's Lost and Found dictionary page in Ground Expresso and Victorian Velvet and blended with Victorian Velvet and Antique Linen.  The larger heart is inked first in Victorian Velvet, then topped with a script stamp from Personal Stamp Exchange.

The flowers were made with the Sizzix Tattered Flowers Garland die, sprayed with Pink Gumball Perfect Pearls Spray Mist and inked with Victorian Velvet and topped with half pearls. The flourishes are Impression Obsession and butterflies Sizzix Butterfly Frenzy. By the way, I purposefully left off  the lace because this is for my husband, believe it or not! I hope he likes pink! I did give it a final flick or two of watered down white acrylic paint.

That's it for tonight, but I'll be back tomorrow with one more (or so) Valentine card.

I would like to enter this card into the following inspiring challenges:
Scrapy Land Challenge # 35 Anything Goes I used three Spellbinders dies, Impression Obsession, and three Sizzix dies.
-Country View Challenges-February-Make Your Own Background I had a teensy bit of help, but I made it my own with the stenciling and inking.
Craft Stamper Take It, Make It February-Text Me! My text background stamps are on my hearts.  I don't know if the stenciling on the background counts.

Thank you for stopping by today and for all your wonderful comments. I read and appreciate each and every one!
Hugs and Blessings!
Sara Emily

  4. Wow this is gorgeous Sara!! I love how you did your back panel with the subtle stencil work, it's a great backdrop with lots of interest, but not too showy! Love the frame...it's the perfect amount of Frilly and goes so well with your lovely blossoms!! I really love that itty bitty heart that you added to the middle of the arrow, what a precious little detail!! A wonderful card my friend, a little vintage, a little shabby, a lot romantic!!

  17. Make do she said! Hahaha! Well you sure did "make do" and a bag of chips! Vintage shabby with a hint of grunge (pink heart with the script stamp) all rolled up into another Sara doll original! Whoot whoot! Love the dies and the flowers and the little bitty pink heart right in the middle of the design. Awesome sauce!

I have stepped away from trying shabby for a looooong bit. It just doesn't feel like "me" but you sure do make me think about it again. Anyhoo-Hugz to you muffin! ~Punkin
