My Cold Heart!

Hello again, crafty friends! This Valentine is for my sister, and she 's not much into love and romance these days.  But it was one of those situations, if you don't make a card, it means you don't care. What started off as a traditional pink and red Valentine went blue and grungy.

I started with a store bought invitation which I covered with distressed card stock on the back and distressed, painted and layered papers on the front. See the pink? Oh, my, what was I thinking?  Not for Kim!

For my top layer, I chose heavy watercolor paper, since I was going to be doing a watercolor technique. First I stamped with a script stamp from Personal Stamp Exchange in Watering Can Archival. Then I used a negative from a Tim Holtz Heartfelt die cut, and traced around the inside of three of the hearts with a red water color pencil and spritzed with water. Not much happened, and then it dawned on me that was because Kim would be sickened at the sight of a traditional red and pink Valentine.  So out came the watercolor crayons and my hand fell on the blue.  I again traced around the inside of 3 different hearts from the negative and this time I spritzed with Pewter Perfect Pearl Spray Mist.  I dried this and blended on some Hickory Smoke Distress ink. I flicked some water at it and dried. I went back over the hearts again with the crayon and used a waterbrush to soften the edges.  This took away some of the color from the ink and spray, so it looks as if I have used white somewhere in all this mess--I didn't!  You can see some of the original red water color pencil poking through.

I decided then the pink background paper looked horrible, but it was too late, so I just went over the edges with the crayon and added a little water to soften it. I added the Small Talk sentiment and added a shadow around it and the hearts using my water brush and Hickory Smoke Distress marker. And there you have it.  My rather UN-Valentine-Valentine for my non-celebratory sister.

I would like to enter my grungy Valentine into the following inspiring challenges:
Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Spritz and Spray I used Perfect Pearl Spray Mist in Pewter.
Cards 4 Guyz Challenge # 106 Valentine or Love I know this is 4 guyz, but my card is masculine for my sister who is anything but froo-froo!.

Hugs and Blessings!
