Twisted Citron with a Twist!

Hello again!  I have another bright project to share with you today!  Yes, it's another casket!  These things can be addicting! This time I used another brand new shopping goodie-- Twisted Citron Distress spray, some clearance aisle ribbon and some new bottles my daughter put in my stocking And I used my new alcohol technique. Love the results; each time unique and always very organic looking. I wanted to use my new things because Emerald Creek Dares has a "New Adventure" challenge--"We Are on Our Way!", and I completely missed with my last coffin, by posting it too early! So this one's for you, girls! As in my previous post, no special lighting or camera filters used--this is the amazing color of  Twisted Citron when paired with gesso! Fire it up!

Again, I was inspired by my Halloween crafty idol and bloggy friend, Nicole Wright with her Haunted Dwellings; in fact her inspiration led me to purchase these colors specifically for these Halloween projects.  I just couldn't wait 'til Halloween to crank them out! I say crank, because there will be more!

Of course, I had to link up to Pamellia's Holiday Hues challenge at Frilly and Funkie, because Halloween is my favorite holiday-- a tie with Christmas, but for completely different reasons. Halloween is fun-filled and crazy, while Christmas is reverent and full of tradition.

To see how I painted my coffin, please see my Halloween in January? post.  For my bottles, I used a variety of techniques, one being new to me. The long tall vial that hangs from the "ceiling" of the coffin is a reject from another project, but I used Tim's Faux Cracked Glass Technique to jazz it up to the next level. I believe I had tried coating the interior with alcohol ink in the past, so there is some blueish tint in there. I smeared some Black Soot paint on the cork and added an eye pin. I hung it with black thread because I wanted the illusion of the bottles floating as if by magic.

For the middle bottle, I tried something new to me.  I gave the exterior and cap a coat of Ranger Glue and Seal and let dry. Then I dabbed on some acrylic paint in River Rock and Distress paint in Vintage Photo and Black Soot; a lovely crusty, dirty hue for the holiday if I do say so myself. Inside I included some cheese cloth sprizted with Hickory Smoke Distress stain spray and some paper I found while taking a walk.  It had been run over numerous times, and I thought it would be perfect for a Halloween project some day! The skulls are a gift from a friend, and I spritzed them with my new Twisted Citron spray and tucked them in. Ghastly!

I think you can see how I made the middle bottle appear to be floating.  I made a little waste packaging shelf for it.  The brown bottle sitting on the "floor"  is also made with the Faux Cracked Glass technique and this time I used paint in Black Soot rather than stain. And I altered the process a teensy bit, so it looks good and thick and crusty. Isn't this the sweetest bottle...I wonder where Lauren got it? I used the Twisted Citron spray once more to color some cheese cloth and tucked it in the bottle for an appearance of gaseous vapor escaping. (???).

For the final detail, I added some of my new clearance ribbon to the lid and finished it off with some piping from my stash.  Doesn't it just make you want to curl up and have a nap???? Oh, that's macabre, I know!  Sorry for that!

This is what my ribbon and unaltered dollar store coffin looked like.  The white trim is what I used on my Wilted Violet coffin.

I would like to enter my casket into the following inspiring challenges:
Emerald Creek Dares We Are on Our Way New Adventure My new Christmas presents, purchases and techniques are listed in bold within my text.
Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge Something New My new items/techniques are listed in bold within my text.
As You Like It Anything Goes My favorite style is Grunge and to alter things, and here's some grunge on my  altered bottles!
Classy Cards n Such Challenge #119 Bright and Cheerful Ok, so a coffin isn't what you would consider "cheerful", but my color sure is!  And it IS bright!

Thank you for stopping by today and for all your lovely comments!  I read each one and appreciate every one of them!
Hugs and Blessings!

  8. I can't believe there's a little bottle of skulls in there, BWAHAHAHAHA!!! I just love this one Sara, I might even love the green more than the purple! WHAT!!! This is so cool, it reminds of a mini goth bar design! Is it wrong of me to want to be 6 inches tall so I can visit this little coffin up close, and maybe pull up a chair and order a green martini with a skull shaped swizzle stick???? HAHA!!

Thank you so much for joining us at Frilly and Funkie for our 'Holiday Hues' challenge, you made my day with this one! Hugs, Pamellia DT :)
