Hello everybody!
It's been awhile since I've been able to join the fun at A Vintage Journey, and this month their theme is
Home, Sweet Home. When I think of home at this time of the year, my mind naturally wanders into haunted house mode. The first year we lived in our current home about 20 years ago, a trick or treater asked me if our house was haunted. Ever since that year, I've done my best to really decorate our home in the spirit of Halloween just for that one day. No kid has ever had to ask if our house is haunted since. Halloween just makes me HAPPY!
I'm also happy
Inspiration Emporium has a challenge this month! So I wanted to share with them how HAPPY I am that Halloween season has officially started for me!
Please be warned; there are a lot of photos--I have a lot of real estate to cover here. The photos are not the best quality; I had to take them indoors since it has been raining cats and dogs for days now. My camera tends to try and focus on the shimmer, leaving me with blurry photos.
So here's my take on Home. I've taken
Tim's October tag from 2012 as inspiration, using the technique he used on his tag and modified for my homes. I started with these wood houses I picked up at a yardsale. I prepped them in the usual fashion with gesso and got started. These are meant to be viewed from the front only, so not much is happening in the back and side yards.
As Tim did, I used Ideaology Postale Tissue Wrap as my base and painted it with various Distress paints and inks according to his tutorial.. I love how you can move this paint around and blend it so easily with a damp baby wipe. I added some stamping from Tim's Trick or Treat set and stenciling using Tim's Dot Fade and Splotches Layering stencils and Watering Can and Cobalt Archival inks. To get some Halloween shimmer, I spritzed with Perfect Pearls spray.
The bats and "Haunted" (Recollections) were heat embossed using Wow Black Glint embossing powder.
I mixed Rock Candy Distress Glitter with Black Soot alcohol ink for the shingles and the Tim Holtz black cat die cut. The Ironwork Gate die cut was given a paint job on this house. The other I left as is once cut from black cardstock for the contrast.
I added a few Seasonal Chit Chat and Occasions Small Talk stickers, and a jac-o-lantern cut from Tim's new Regions Beyond paper stash, and covered them with Multi Matte Medium. When dry, I went back and added some shadows with Black Soot Distress Marker.
The spider is from Tim's Wicked Alpha Parts, and I altered the ball chain from my stash with alcohol ink and Distress embossing powder for him to hang from. I also added a shadow for these.
Now for the side and back views.
As for those numbers...
That's it for my Home, Sweet Haunted Home! These will be my first indoor Halloween decorations of the season! So much fun to make, but easy-peasy!
I would like to enter my houses into the following inspiring challenges:
Thank you so much for stopping by and for all your sweet words! Hugs and Blessings,
Sara Emily
