Tim's 12 Tags of 2015--October-- Ghastly!

Hello friends!

I'm incredibly early for Tim's October tag, but I knew right away what I was going to do the minute I set my googly eyes on his ghoulish 3D tag!  I had just finished layering up Tim's  Mr. Skellie on my altered Halloween box when his October challenge posted, so my tag had to involve Mr. Skellie!

For Tim's complete tutorial, including a video on how to use his Zombie thinlit die, visit his blog.

                                       TAG-MAIN

When I saw Tim's Sizzix Alterations Sneak Peek in July, I knew I had to have his Coffin Box, and it is the perfect size to hold the smaller Mr. Skellie from Tim's Halloween Haunts Kraft Resist Paper Stash. With a little dis-articulation, that is.

I fussy cut 4 of the skeletons from the quartered page and cut various parts to layer up, trying to stay anatomically correct from what I could remember from my Gross Anatomy labs. Yes, we used the real deal! I layered the skull 3 times: background layer which I colored with Peeled Paint Distress ink, the cranium and facial bones, and the jaw.  I layered and curved the ribs and cut out the clavicles and sternum and layered that on the ribs. I cut the spinal column out and gave him an appropriate lumbar curve.  Lastly, I cut out the pelvis and pubic symphysis and popped that up as well.  All bones were colored with my Galaxy marker   and  lightly touched with Distress ink in Peeled Paint.  In the end, I added a little Rock Candy Distress Crackle paint and wiped with Vintage Photo Distress stain to highlight the cracks.

For the coffin, I used Tim's Wrinkle Free Distress technique on both sides of Ranger manila card stock, using various shades of browns, Black Soot and Hickory Smoke on one side and Chipped Sapphire, Black Soot and Hickory Smoke distress inks on the other.  This is my favorite way to create a background--Tim, you're a genius! I cut the coffin down on the sides of the bottom piece so my skeleton wouldn't get lost in there. Aren't these papers just yummy?! (I forgot to photograph before I cut.) Photos just don't do them justice!

I used Tim's Regions Beyond Paper Stash to cover my tag, sanding the edges and adding some Hickory Smoke and Walnut Stain Distress ink to the edges. Because I didn't have the Splatters Layering Stencil, I added my splatters free hand using my Hickory Smoke stain.  I lifted my stain and brought the business end straight down on the tag.  It's a little messy and definitely uncontrolled, but a good effect. Protect anything you don't want splattered!  For the rings, I used a medicine cup dipped in the stain on my craft mat.  Dots added by blotting my tag in what was left on my mat. Dry with a heat tool.

I prepared my word band as Tim did, but added some Mushroom alcohol ink and then rock Candy Crackle paint.  When dried, I swiped on vintage Photo stain to highlight the cracks. I felt the word band is very appropriate and somewhat sinister.

I finished my tag with cheese cloth dyed with Hickory Smoke and Peeled Paint Distress stain and a snippet of Crinkle Ribbon and a silvery gruesome hand charm from my last order with Frilly and Funkie. I love Linda's little thank you gifts she includes; so thoughtful and so USEFUL! I altered it as I did the word band and attached with a loop pin.  I added the bones for a little something extra.

What a super fun tag this month!  Thank you for the inspiration, Tim! One final look at the completed tag:

Final word:   I went to Joanne's today while the Crackle Paint was drying to get my daughter a really cool water bottle they (used to) sell.  Guess what I found???? Too late for this month's tag, but I know I'll use it!

I would like to enter this into the following inspirational challenges:
