Mile High Stenciled Road Trip Card

Hello crafty friends!
My apologies for not posting lately. We arrived home from our vacation, and it seemed if it could go wrong, it WOULD go wrong.  Not to trouble you with my troubles, but I'm here today to share a card with you that I made for my brother and sister in law to thank them for their gracious hospitality when our family visited theirs this month.  They always make us feel so special--they get the extended family together for great meals and an outing of some sort.  This year, we got to visit the zoo in Washington, DC, their farm in Virginia, and then enjoyed a fabulous dinner at a fine restaurant in the country. Sylvie always makes us wonderful home made dinners with food fresh from their garden and huge breakfasts, too! This year, we got to meet my new grandniece for the first time--she is a happy and healthy 2 month old sweetie pie who enjoyed our outings as much as we did!

So here is the card I made for them.  I will probably send along a shadowbox, so they may mount it if they wish.

The ever-creative Pamellia is hosting "Raise It Up" at Frilly and Funkie, and I've just got a few hours left to join in the fun!  She would like to see popped up layers on our projects, so I piled it high! There are layered panels, layered tags and layered embellishments, as well as popped up Ephemera from Tim Holtz. Interesting to note:  we take Route 66 from my brother's home to our ultimate vacation spot.

I made a copy of a map of my brother's town, and hand cut it into a tag. I stamped a Tim Holtz tire track image (Here and There) on that tag and on the "Road Trip" tag. I stamped the car and Route 66 sign 3 times each on recycled cards and layered them up using sticky foam and glue dots. The map tag and all the layers are mounted on corrugate scrap card board to raise them up. I jostled the cars to give a sense of motion.

I wanted to use stencils on my card so I could join in Mixed Media World's "Stencils" challenge. I tried to use just one stencil in many ways, but I ended up adding two others in the end.  The stencils used are Tim Holtz Doily and Rays and Recollections .

For the first layer, I inked through the Doily stencil with Distress ink Faded Jeans, then layered Texture paste through the Recollections stencil, and while wet, pressed a Tim Holtz script stamp into the paste. When dry, I inked again with both Faded Jeans and Walnut Stain.

The second layer was made by laying down texture paste and sinking off cuts from a recent project into the paste (This was a Cherry Lynn lattice die).  My die cut machine has decided to go to Sizzix Heaven, so I am using whatever scraps I have.  I laid the doily stencil over this and inked with Faded Jeans and edged in Walnut Stain.

I needed another kraft layer, and inked through the doily stencil again, but this looked too blah, so I added some washi tape and then texture paste through Tim's Rays stencil, and sprinkled on Ranger Denim  embossing powder and Stampin' Up's Chocolate something embossing powder. I blasted it 'til bubbly and melted, and then inked over with Faded Jeans and Walnut Stain.

The last layer before tags and embellishments is made by dabbing through the Doily stencil with Ranger's Embossing Dabber and heat embossing with Denim embossing powder. Then I blended Faded Jeans over it and edged in Walnut Stain. The Road Trip tag is made by using Tim's Monoprint technique using Faded Jeans and the Doily stencil. Thank you sentiment is by Flonzcraft.

All in all, my card stands 1 and 1/2 inches tall!  What a fun challenge this was, even though I'm afraid of heights! Here's one last shot to give an idea of the layering.

I would like to enter this into the following inspiring challenges:
