Birthday Tag-Altered Surfaces

Hello, friends!

I wanted to join in Tim Holtz 12 Tags of 2015-July and Linda Ledbetter's Compendium of Curiosities 3 Challenge # 33, but have been pretty tied up this month with vacations, Dr. visits, and most recently a surgery.  But a great blog buddy is celebrating her birthday, and I wanted to make her a card.  Perfect inspiration for getting 'er done!

Here's the tag I made for her using Tim's July tag for inspiration, and including some altered Ideaology and Alpha Pieces for CC3C's challenge which is based on Tim's Altered Surfaces technique found on page 45 of his inspiring book A Compendium of Curiosities Vol. 3 which you can still purchase here.  This is the second to the last challenge at CC3C, and I didn't want to miss one more of Linda's challenges. (I was out of town during the last challenge, and just couldn't get it together before I left for vacation.)

As always, the Curiosity Crew has some amazing inspiration for this technique.  Be sure to pop by Linda's blog to see how the Crew put their own spin on the technique, and then visit each of the Crew's blogs to see all the details of each wonderful creation.  Linda is offering two prizes as always:  a humongous pile of Tim's goodies generously donated by Tim and Mario for the Curiosity Crew's Choice and a whopping gift certificate  to Inspiration Emporium generously supplied by the owners Joy and her family. And everyone's a winner because they get to try out a really fun and easy technique.

I won't go into any details on how I did this; Tim always provides the easiest to follow tutorial and you can find that on his website.

Here are a few close-ups, so you can see the details.  I pretty much followed Tim's instructions on his blog, but was lacking one key ingredient. Let's just say, I've got to get my hands on some of that Distress Microglaze.  I won't divulge my secret ingredient to achieve the same look, out of fairness to Tim, but I will say I will get some of his good stuff as soon as I am able; it will be a whole lot easier!  I also used his Spritz and Flick technique to up the vintage look and used faux stitching using his design ruler and pen.  Lifting my sewing machine is off limits, per Doc's orders! The colors I used are Peacock Feathers, Pumice Stone, and Wild Honey inks and markers and for my Altered Surfaces Salty Ocean, Cracked Pistachio and Antique Bronze distress paints.  I also used a little Antique Linen paint on the vial label. Stamps used are from Tim's Mini Blueprints 4 and Simple Sayings sets.  Remnant Rubs for the label, Ideaology embellishments and dyed Crinkle Ribbon finish it off.

I would like to enter this in the following inspiring challenges:

Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge No Ordinary Paper I used Tim Holtz Distress watercolor paper for my stamped and colored panels.

Thank you for stopping in today, and for all you kind comments!  I  read and appreciate each and every one of them and do try to reply.  I am doing my best to get around to everyone's blog to leave some love.  I must apologize, I have limited time at my computer due to my recent surgery (I still only have a desk top PC), and I am on bed rest the remainder of the next 24 hours, so it will take a while.) Hugs, and Blessings!

Sara Emily
So sorry for the upside down photos--Blogger seems to be stubborn this morning, and I'm supposed to be on bed rest, so I better get to it! Just twist your head around and they will be fine! :)

  17. Hi Sara - I love your different take on Tim's tag and that you can use it for a real purpose too! It's really fun. Love the bow - it matches perfectly. And the way you placed the metal embellishments made it all come together. It's such a neat birthday card - unique which I love. But I am mostly just stopping by here to thank you. Oh my goodness, gracious - you have no idea - none... how much your stopping by my blog today means to me. And to stay so long - looking, commenting... when you are already so busy and behind.... well... it's overwhelming. All your comments were so so special. Honestly, I just have tears streaming at the moment from your kindness. You gave me such a fabulous blessing of love and friendship today. Thank you from my heart. Hugs. j.
P.S. I would have replied on my blog but the reply button won't work. I have contacted them three times but still not fixed. I tried to fix it myself by reading on the internet what to do but that didn't work either. Oh well - I'm just not very social media savvy! But I did want to thank you..thank you... thank you... j.
