Where to Go? Masculine Mixed Media Card

Welcome friends! Thank you for all your sweet comments on my recent posts. I've just returned from almost two weeks of 'clean' vacation time in the mountains of Virginia and West Virginia, with NO internet and am trying to get my bloglegs back.  What better way than to create a travel themed card for Kathy's  'Planes, Trains and Automobiles' theme at Frilly and Funkie?

Here's what Kathy has to say about her theme: 'Summer is a great time to travel.  For this challenge, create a vintage or shabby chic travel themed project.  Think folded maps, cruise ships, road signs, compasses, passports, trains, planes or automobiles. As long as your project features a travel theme, you're headed in the right direction.'

You might recognize that frame from my tutorial on creating with Tim Holtz Baseboard Frames. I didn't have much in the line of planes trains or automobiles, but I did managed to come up with a travel themed card for Kathy's challenge. Most of my layers were either from the old Expedition ephemera pack or Tim's Pocket Cards. The plane is a Remnant Rub, as is 'The Journey'.

I stamped part of a ticket from Ticket Booth on an inky scrap, and used the Framelits to die cut it out. I cut it into two pieces for some interest in my collage.

The key is from one of those lovely sets that Linda carries in the The Funkie Junkie Boutique.  I altered it with alcohol inks -- Snow Cap and Mushroom, and while tacky, sprinkled with Patina Oxide Baked Texture and heated 'til just melted. A Story Stick tells the story of travels. I just scribbled it with Picket Fence Distress Crayon. Of course, I had to use one of my beloved Paper Dolls! Sanded and colored with more crayons.

Everything is layered over Correspondence paper stash, which is layered over Classic Kraft Stock, sanded and blended with Ground Espresso Distress ink. I did a little faux stitching using a stamp from my stash. My sewing machine was threaded and ready to sew, but it had brown thread in it. It takes me about 10 minutes to thread the needle, and that was 10 minutes I couldn't spare right now.
