Welcome friends and visitors! I've finally gotten started on on my tags for Linda's 12 Tags of Christmas Funkie Junkie Style! I totally blew it on getting started early with this challenge this year. Last year I didn't get started until December 9, so I guess I'm a little ahead of the game! I'm starting with week 5. For those that haven't heard about this challenge it is a 12 week challenge to make a winter or Christmas themed project inspired by Linda's 12 weekly tags. This is the 5th year that the sweet and talented Linda Coughlin has hosted this challenge, and it is generously sponsored by her shop The Funkie Junkie Boutique. A huge Thank You to Linda for hosting and sponsoring this challenge!
Here's Linda's tag for week 5, and it's obvious I drew inspiration from her use of the Mixed Media Thinlit Holly Leaves, baubles, and her fluffy bow. I pretty much just copied her lovely design, but changed my colors, and used some different products. Isn't Linda's tag just beautiful?
The Holly die cut layer is Evergreen Bough spray along with a misting of Perfect Pearl mist in Heirloom Gold. I tore the paper and edged in Frayed Burlap. I added Stickles 'berries'. Like Linda, I also stamped my holly cuts as well as foiled them. I embossed a Flonz Craft greeting in gold, and added a back panel embossed with a sparkly gold powder.
My baubles are not Tim's, just some from my stash, and either my gold mixative is old and not working, or the baubles don't take the color like they did on Linda's. The gold looked really flat, so I added Sunshine Yellow alcohol ink. Still not 'gold' enough, so I added some leafing to these baubles, too. This was not easy! The red baubles are actually pearls, and I used Watermelon alcohol ink on them. Looks like a good match for my Candied Apple stained crinkle ribbon! I just love the look of the stained background with the stamping layered with this delicate Mixed Media Thinlit die cut.
Perhaps a better look at the gold leafing on the baubles. It's hard to capture on the camera. In fact, I couldn't see it at all on the smaller baubles on my camera shot, but trust me, it's there, and I worked hard to get it! I'm afraid I don't share Linda's love of leafing--perhaps it's the brand I have in my stash (Martha Stewart), but I don't find it works too easily, especially on the baubles.
These baubles don't look this bad in real life.
And by accident, I found mt tag lights up quite nicely in the glow of my desk lamp! This gives me an idea to make a lantern. If you look REAL hard you can see my scribbly handwriting on the back. I had to write my personal greeting on the back before adding the dimensional elements to the front.

The watermelon coloured pearls look amazing too - you are not the only one where the colour has not taken on baubles - so glad it is not just me... The Candied Apple bow is stunning and I love how you layered the tag, it really sets off those beautiful colours! Hugs, Anne xx

Wow, just gorgeous Sara!! I am loving your non-traditional colour palette here, I would never have thought to use these colours for a Christmas tag, but you sure do make them look fun and festive! I love the addition of the gold too, a touch of holiday elegance! Well done my friend, a winner for sure! hugs :)

ReplyDeleteWell I never! You went so feminine with this and I ADORE it! Woah, what a gorgeous remake! You and I both seem to thrive under pressure, all the more reason I love you. :) (Yes, I'm in rare form today and quite emotional - so whatever!) Such a fantastic source of inspiration and really helps me to continue to view these tasks with an open mind. Hugs, Autumn
ReplyDeleteTotally inspiring and interesting tag. I love that you went in a totally different direction and came up with this beauty. Gold leaf if is a mess and not something I am into as well. But it sure does look good! The scribbles of your handwriting in the desk lamp shot is a hoot! Awesome sauce and wonderful accident. The baubles look good to me dearie. Hugz to you muffin! ~Punkin
ReplyDeleteFabulous tags Sara Emily! The colours you've chosen for both are fabulous! Love all the extra elements you've added to them also! Thanks for playing along on the Southern Ridge Trading Company Blog!
