Hello friends and visitors! I have a quick post for you today of a canvas I made for my daughter. Pamellia is hosting the challenge 'Things with Wings' at Frilly and Funkie, so I included lots of butterflies on my canvas. This started with a stack of "art" papers that I had been playing with but never actually made it onto a project.
This looks a bit of a mess, but actually it's quite pretty in natural light and in person. You'll just have to take my word on it! Below is a shot I took outdoors in the shade and is much more like the actual colors. The inspiration for my project was a piece of paper I lined my spray box with covered in yummy Dylusions ink sprays. I die cut my flowers and punched some butterflies using this and other papers in my "save it for later" basket.
I die cut my posies and adhered to the canvas...pretty bold colors...probably not shabby enough for Frilly and Funkie, huh?
I added some stenciling using transparent paste and some glitter, then Tumbled glass stain spritzed with water. Ooops! The Dylusions are bleeding, but I kind of like that! Still too bright but white wash paint and Multi Matte Medium help to tone it down.
This is the scrap paper I cut the large butterfly with. I believe I used alcohol and kosher salt to get the texture over Distress paints. Isn't it pretty?

ReplyDeleteA beautiful texture background... And these blending colours are wonderful!
ReplyDeleteLove the way your posies just seem to melt into that luscious background Sara. Perfect sentiment for your daughter at this time in her life. Beautiful. creativity. Xj.
ReplyDeleteWell I believe this is perfect for shabby at F&F. Everyone's shabby should look different because if it all looked the same that would mean people didn't have their own ideas and weren't experimenting with this fun idea. And it would be boring. But that's my HO. Hehe. Gorgeous and beautiful design. Love the butterflies and the use of the scraps. That leftover with the salt piqued my interest as well. Your daughter truly is a lucky lady to have you for a mum. So amazeballs! Love the crackle around the edges and the stenciling as well. Totes Wowzers! Hugz to you muffin! ~Punkin
