12 Tags of 2016-September

 Hello crafty friends and visitors! Can you believe we are half way through September, and my favorite time of the year is just around the corner! With temperatures dipping into the 70's at night my mind turns to fall and Halloween! Tim must have been thinking of Halloween when he picked this month's Technique Remix--Paint Patina and Alcohol Ink Resist. His added technique from his Chemistry 103 class of what I call 'alcohol ink ghosting' screams for Halloween stamps!

You can find all of Tim's instructions and his fabulous industrial looking September tag on his blog. I love the Evolution stamps he used, but sadly I don't yet have that set. Nor do I have the ubiquitous Yupo paper--well, it's seen all over the Internet, but not yet in our local craft stores. So, after attempting the technique with so many surfaces I had in my stash--some successful, others not--I did some research and made my own Yupo-like paper. Out of respect to Tim, I will not reveal my secret. But it did work--mostly. I still have the real Yupo on my on-line wish list.

Oh, my how I LOVE that painted patina! I tried this on several surfaces, too, and there is no substitute for that Ranger manila card stock or Tim's tags for this. My colors of Distress paint are Evergreen Bough, Mustard Seed, Peeled Paint (just a titch) and Antiqued Bronze. Distress inks used are Evergreen Bough, Ground Expresso, and Black Soot. The stamps are from Tim's Undertaker set. I stamped the Undertaker and spider images in Distress black archival ink (my only color) and the script background images in Ranger Potting Soil archival ink. The spiders were over stamped in the Potting Soil. I used some new and old Remnant Rubs, Linen Ribbon and an altered spider ring from my stash.

The patina technique was used on bats from the Wicked Alpha Parts set. At first I used the colors from my background and then realized I wanted purple bats. The bats in the background are done using Tim's Layering stencil and his alcohol ink resist technique.

Gotta love that woodgrain look from swirling on the alcohol inks. A trio of Tiny Attachers altered with alcohol ink finish it off.

Mixed Media World MMW#18 Magical/Fantasy I think of Halloween as a celebration of fantasy. I don't follow the so-called evilness behind it, but it is a time we can be anything we want (and not look too strange doing it!)
