Be Mine

Good evening, if I get this posted before the end of the afternoon. Otherwise, good morning!  I'm linking up another Valentine using Tim's Rock Candy Distress Glitter Technique found on page 55 of his tremendously inspiring and informative book A Compendium of Curiosities Vol. 3.  If you haven't picked up your copy yet, you can order one here autographed by the Master himself! There's still another day to play along at Linda Ledbetter's Studio L3 Compendium of Curiosities 3 Challenge (CC3C) where she is challenging us to use the Rock Candy Distress Glitter technique exactly as Tim outlines it on page 55. If you want to win some goodies, this is the one challenge you don't want to miss!  If the Curiosity Crew picks your make as thier favorite you will win a massive coolection of Tim's goodies compliments of Tim and Mario.  And if you are a lucky winner, you will come away with a whopping $50 gift certificate donated by Joy and her family at Inspiration Emporium to use at this jam packed online craft Heaven.

Let's get started; this will be brief, since I have to get back into the Closet and finish up a few more Valentines! Here is a simple card loaded with techniques I made for my mother and father in law.  You might recognize that stamped image on the heart by now, as well as the Texture Fade--both by Tim Holtz. For the background I gave white card stock a coat of gesso. When dry, I swiped and dabbed on some alcohol inks, then dripped on rubbing alcohol and water.  This gives a wonderful water droplet look. I embossed the card with Valentine Texture Fade and swiped on Distress ink to highlight the raised areas. I added a few strips of Tim's Tissue Tape and wrapped with some stashed ribbon. Edges were inked with Distress ink.

I tucked in one heart which was actually free hand cut from a test piece of card I had on my work top from many posts back (trying colors of Distress Paint combinations).  That card then became a test piece for Tim's RCDG technique, which you can see didn't have the best results.  What the heck...I needed a red heart, and so it became one!  Not my finest moment with the technique, but I thought it looked rather interesting how I got two different looks  using two different color inks, otherwise done just the same.  This technique doesn't have the best results over Distress paint, especially with different levels of coverage. Oh well, I think it looks like a shadow.

I wanted to join in the crafty fun over at Really Reasonable Ribbon for their challenge Buttons and Bows, since my  friend the talented Kathy Clement is on the Design Team there.  She did an awesome make that inspired me to try my hand. So I found this wooden button in my stash, stained it with Distress stain and stamped that SAME flourish from Tim's set I've been using a LOT of lately!  It works for Valentine's Day for me! I tied it with a piece of string.  I added a metal heart charm I had on my work top--Biskit, have you been rummaging again?--pinned on with a tiny safety pin.

Well, that' it for today!  I have two more Valentine's projects I hope to have completed by end of tomorrow, so maybe I'll see you again tomorrow night!  Thank you for all your lovely comments!  I've not had a chance to reply, but I'm reading them and loving every single one.  I hope I can get caught up tomorrow! Please remember, I will be drawing a name of one lucky reader on Feb. 15, so each time you've commented from my first post of the year until Feb.14 I will be entering your name into the draw. I will be announcing the winner here on Feb. 16, so be sure to stop back! Prize is a potpourri of new in package products that I somehow managed to acquire duplicates of and some other crafty stuff thrown in for fun. Maybe you can use some of it or maybe you can pass it on to someone else! I just wanted to share some crafty love for Valentine's Day! Hugs!

  6. The spotty ribbon is so delightful, I love it. It goes perfectly with your card and adds just that much more interest. I always for a plain, but I'm now gonna be on the lookouts for something quirky... haha something else to add to the list!! Your background with the embossing is beautiful and the whole card has just come together in amazing fashion, as always. Huge hugs, Georgie xx
