Shabby Artsy Card

Saturday, May 31, 2014

So here I am again, trying my hand at this blogging for the second time.  I'm entering a few more of my cards that I worked on Friday.  I will try several challenges; a lot of work for a first timer! Excuse me if I don't use proper blogger etiquette, but I will do my best.

I am entering this piece in the  Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Artsy Stamp-- .   I am also entering it in the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge Anything Goes.

For the background I used Tim Holtz Regal Flourishes Texture Fade, painted with white acrylic paint and dried.  Used blending tool to apply Broken China Distress Ink and palette knife to apply gold Distress paint to raised areas.

Doily: Peeled Paint Distress Ink and Gold Distress Paint.

Stamped Art definition (unknown origin) with Pumice Stone Distress Ink on white panel.  Overstamped with Outlines daisy image with Versamark and  embossed with clear embossing powder.  Painted flowers with Gelatos and wiped off excess from embossed areas with baby wipe.  Highlighted  image with Sharpie pen.  Spritzed completed panel with Perfect Pearl mist and edge in gold leaf pen.  Wrapped panel with sparkly blue cord and backed with hand made gold paper.  Added Time Holtz Words Remnant Rubs "FLY" and a butterfly from Michaels that I altered with Gold Stickles and Broken China Distress Stain.  Panel popped off background.

This is my shabby side.
Last card for now...

I found another old art stamp in my box of old stamps I can't bear to part with.  It's called House Plans by Stampington and Company.  It reminds me of my architect husband, so I decided to go with that idea.

I am going to enter this card into the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Artsy Stamp, the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge Anything Goes, and the Eureka Stamps Masculine or Grungy Challenge.

For the background I used a heavy card stock and inked up Stampington and Company's Facade stamp with Archival Jet Black. I stamped this, Tim Holtz Dare to Dream from Simple Sayings, and various other tiny sentiments from a background stamp of unknown origin ("joints", "specifications", "creative", and "great idea") all with the same ink. Then I dry embossed  with Tim Holtz Bricked Texture Fade.  I applied gesso to the embossed card with a palette knife and let that dry while I made all my other cards.  Later, I used an Ink blending tool to distress  the brick with Fired Brick (of course) and Black Soot Distress Inks, wiping with a damp baby wipe after. Distressed edges with Tim's Distressing Tool and glued onto a black card base.

Now for that cool stamp.  I tore up pieces of old book pages and glued them to white cardstock.  Painted with gesso and dried.  Then painted with Antique Linen, Weathered Wood and Mustard Seed Distress Paints.  Spritzed with water to blend.  Dried and then stamped this with  House Plans with Archival Jet Black ink. Cut out and popped up off background.  I had my husband hand letter the sentiment which I cut out and edged with black ink and popped off the back ground.

I think this would make a great Father's Day card from me.  Poor guy, has to help make his own card!

I have another card I made on Friday (I even cleaned the house and did laundry on Friday!).  I am entering it in the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Artsy Stamp and the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge Anything Goes. I would also like to submit it to Eureka Stamps Masculine or Grungy challenge .

I brought out an oldie but goodie stamp for this:  it is an art definition stamp from an unknown origin (my box of old stamps that I can't seem to part with--remember this blog is about whatever I discover in my closet).  I stamped this using Archival Jet Black ink, colored with Distress Markers and cut out.  I set it aside until background was completed.

For my background I used cardstock and stamped another unknown company art definition (from same box) repeatedly with Pumice Stone Distress Ink. Distressed with Vintage Photo DI and did the spritz and flick technique to get the droplets. I applied Gelatos to Tim Holtz balloon stamp (The Impossible set) and stamped on background.  I inked up the same stamp with Archival Jet Black and stamped over the same image.  Ran the card through the Big Kick with Tim Holtz Wing (French Connection) Texture Fade.   Added more Gelatos with my finger to highlight the embossing and also to the background for depth.  Stamped sentiment from Dyan Reaveley.  Popped up the cut-out art stamped piece over the balloon.

I love the messiness of this card.  How about you?
Another card, and more gray hair as I try to blog about it!  This one is a little bit brighter, and I hope I am, too!

I am entering this in the challenge here: Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Artsy Stamp and here: Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge Anything Goes . Also sending it to Make Your Mark Challenge at Addicted to Stamps since I would like to make my mark in the world of blogging about my passion.

For the background I used Dylusions Ink sprays  (Fresh Lime and Vibrant Turquise) dripped on craft mat and spritzed with water. I dragged Adirondack glossy card stock through the puddle and dried it. To add depth,  I used a blending tool with Broken China and Faded Jeans Distress inks and the following stencils:  Tim Holtz Burlap and Dylusions Dots and Alphabet.  I over-stamped with Dylusions Round the Edge leaf stamps (around the edge), and painted  them with  water brushes filled with Dylusions Bubblegum Pink and Fresh Lime.  I stamped Ranunculus by Stampendous twice--on the background and also on watercolor paper. I painted all flower heads with  the waterbrush with Bubblegum Pink ink spray, and cut out the ones on watercolor paper, which I  popped off the background using varied thicknesses of pop-ups.  Painted ranunculus leaves with Pesto Dylusions Ink spray.  Stamped butterfly from Inkadinkado's Meadow set and sentiment from Fiskars For the Birds set. All stamping done with Archival Jet Black ink.

I tried to show the varying depths of the flower heads in second photo.  This is my daughter's favorite card!

Addendum

PS I should add that my card uses a technique as done by Mona Pendleton at cupcakescreations.blogspot.com

Art Stamp Challenge

I am entering my first challenge at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge The Artsy Stamp.  I made this card for my sister, whom I have been sending an almost daily card for over 1 year.  We have a little joke about getting sidetracked.  I used Tim Holtz embossing folder on cardstock, then painted with white paint, a distress paints.  White embossed the Tim Holtz globe stamp and added the sentiment.  The something shiny is a charm off a child's bracelet distressed with alcohol inks. and tied off with string purchased at an estate sale this weekend.  Taken with a bad camera. Lots of fun to make; I hope she gets it. I hope to try these and other challenges more often.  The real challenge for me is the blogging.
